USY (United Synagogue Youth) is an international Conservitive Jewish Youth Group.  USY and Kadima inspire Jewish youth to explore, celebrate and practice ethical values, Jewish Living, Zionism and community responsibility based on the ideology of the Conservative Movement. The goal of the movement is to bring Jewish teenagers closer to Judaism and Israel through learning and social interaction. In other words, we are high schoolers that are excited to learn about Judiasm and bring what we learn about our religion and community back to our congreation.

United Synagogue Youth is more than a youth group. We are a cohesive family that supports each other and our communities. USYers love to dance, sing, and smile. Through our unique summer programs and monthly regional and chapter activities, our organization offers a lot! In addition, as conservative Jews we stand for inclusion, acceptance, and leadership. These qualities have established the warm environment USY offers and develop dynamic leaders that truly make an impact in the world."

~Joshua Ull (2012 International USY President)

REGIONAL CONVENTION!!!

This year we are the proud hosts of USY's annual Regional Convention! This event is a 3 day convention in May that includes Shabbat Services, Havdalah, Regional Elections, Special Shabbat Games, Inciteful Discussions, Special Activities, and so much more!  Adding to the excitement, our own president, Zina Zimmerman, is the chair!  That means she will approve all the activities and run the entire weekend (with a co-chair of course).  We want to show USY that Spokane is the best place to be!!  Because we all know it is!!  We can't wait to share our city with the rest of USY! We are also looking for suggestions!! If you havean idea on what 100 USYers could do for a few hours, in Spokane, give us a shout via email (found under the "Contact Us" page)! We can't wait to hear from you!!

Spaghetti Dinner:

Spokane Adir holds an Annual Spaghetti Dinner as our main fundraiser.  Members of Adir spend hours making delicious spaghetti, salads, bread, and everything else needed for a fabulous dinner, including dessert!  We also have games of BINGO going on after dinner, with special prizes to the winners.  Prizes in the past have included: gift cards to local stores, family portraits at a discounted rate, frames, food, movies, theater tickets, gift cards to restraunts, headphones, and so much more!  We also have raffles taking place that night!  How much better could a spaghetti dinner get? Best of all, it is all run by Spokane Adir.  The profits not only going to our local chapter, but also a non-profit organization in Spokane!

Kosher Dinner:

Every year, Temple Beth Shalom hosts a Kosher Dinner for the whole Spokane community. And every year, Adir members help run the show. In previous years, Adir members have provided entertainment, washed dishes, passed out meals and drinks, and filled to-go bags.  We volunteer for four hour shifts and work as hard as we can to make the experience for the community amazing! Come support our temple and our USY chapter!

USY Led Services:

USY lead Friday night and/or Saturday morning Services whenever we can.  Usually this is twice per year, because it is hard to find a weekend that everyone can make it to services and help out.  We incorporate our own fun tunes to prayers and get the congregation involved!  USY services are great for any weekend, especially if you want to shake your service up with new tunes and young faces!  If you are interested in coming to one of our services, email us when our next USY led service is!! (email is found under the "Contact Us" page)

Spinning

Spin someone's yard with pinwheels!  Celebrate a birthday, b'nai mitzvah, wedding, or any celebration by spinning your friends yard!  Make a simple donation of $25 and show your friend how much you care!  Send a personal message to them at no extra cost!  USY will secretly spin your friends yard at night and pick them up later that week.  All you have to do, is make a donation.

Pinwheel Regional Calendar 2012-2013

*Please also note our Kadima Kinnus dates for the next 4 years.  We typically run Kadima Kinnus during the first Shabbat of December.  We urge all member congregations to avoid booking b'nai mitzvah during Kadima Kinnus weekend wherever possible.  Besides hurting our programme, it often places youth in a difficult position when having to choose between attending a friend's or classmate's simcha or attending a much-anticipated regional convention.
