Junior Congregation got a great start during the High Holidays. Special siddurs were made for the kids and our song leader, Sam Adams wrote some special songs to help bring an authentic joy to our service.
Last Shabbat we had our first Junior Congregation and it was packed! There was a prayer board game where the kids went from one station to the next and had to recite the Shabbat morning prayers and come up with innovative ideas for what the prayers mean to them.
It is important to mention that Junior Congregation is for those who are 5 years old and up. Annette Goldstein prepares a wonderful Tot Shabbat for all children younger than five years old. That is why both of these services will start at 10:30am from now on. The next Tot Shabbat will start back up in the Fall of 2012. Looking forward to seeing you all then!
I have implemented a new attendance method that which is Shabbat friendly. It involves a large bulletin board with all the names of the kids. I will pass out stickers during services to the kids and they will place the sticker by their name. The idea behind it is not only to ensure compliance with our service attendance requirements, but also to find fun rewards when an age group obtains a certain amount of stickers. I look forward to seeing all the kids there.
